052701_26_79quarter_small.jpg (5028 bytes) A damaged rear driver side quarter panel was replaced from another car, rather than re-sculpted in plastic body filler.  The original spot welds on both panels were drilled out.
A metallic based body compound was mixed and used to fill the b-pillar seam, then scraped smooth and sanded after drying. 052701_26_79quarter_b-pilar_sm.jpg (3772 bytes)
Seam sealer was used in the stock locations in the trunk and inner fender well.
The replacement panel's edges were matched to the body, clamped and welded.  The weld spots are sanded flush and primed.
Under the car After the drive train and front frame rails are removed, the underside is cleaned down to the factory paint to check for rust spots.
Straight front frame rails are selected from a parts car, and prepared for sandblasting. front subframe
The doors, interior, dash and glass has been removed.
Cracks in the driver and passenger side A pillars were discovered after the interior panels were removed.  The door opening is measured and the crack is welded shut.
Upper and lower control arms are sandblasted in preparation for treatment with Por15.
You make the sanding and painting part seem so simple. Here is what is going to have to happen before I paint the car. I have finished the first round of block sanding. It always show you areas that need more attention. I have already fixed those. I also fixed the passenger side door. At this point, I am going to re-prime the body and the passenger side door. After block sanding the body again and the door. I have to be satisfied the body is absolutely perfect. At that point, I will have to rebuild the door hinges and put new pins and bushings in them. Then I will hang and adjust the door. At that point, the body and the door should be ready to wet sand with a 9" block. Before I do the wet sanding, I will finish the driver door and the trunk lid and bring them up to the same point as the rest of the car. Once the doors are hung and adjusted, I will wet sand the entire car with a 9" wet block. At that time, the car will be perfect and ready for paint. I will then seal the car. Then we are ready for paint. It will get 4 coats of black urethane paint and I will paint the car with the doors open so I can get the door jambs too. From that point, things should progress a lot quicker than they have. The prep work is 95% of the paint job.
