This '79 Firebird will
donate a rear light panel for restoration of a '80 Trans Am |
 |
These triangular areas on each side of the trunk
opening are a joint of 4 layers of sheet metal. The joint is
made up of the top of the quarter panel, gutter trim, light panel and
inside cove. Indentations usually indicate a spot weld which is
drilled out and split with the help of an air chisel. |
 |
 |
Once the external welds
are separated the trunk pan is cut
behind the leaf spring hangers, for access to internal spot welds.
Small remaining strips on each side are cut with a torch. |
 |
 |
Although the rear quarter panels are
compatible from 1975 thought 1981, the
inside cove over the light panel
is sharply curved on '75 - '98 but diagonal on '79 - 81.
Likewise this light panel is compatible with '79 - '81 taillights
only. |
